Who will I help?

You’re sitting in reception waiting for an interview. As soon as the interviewer walks out of the lift you’ll have made your first impression. If you want the job you need to look the part.

But dressing appropriately for an interview on a low budget is tough.

Dress for Success provides vulnerable women – many unemployed, ex-offenders or living in refuges – with smart clothing suited to the position, and further boosts their confidence with interview training.

How will I help?

Volunteer at Dress for Success to give vulnerable women the final bit of confidence they need to get a job and help lift themselves out of poverty.

You may find yourself helping out with:

• Sorting and steam cleaning donations
• Preparing the boutique for service and helping with any admin
• Providing clients with interview advice

Put your organizational skills and can-do attitude to great use helping women to help themselves.

It was a complete delight to work for this charity. The confidence that it gives women to go back into the workforce is outstanding. The volunteers who take their time to work at Dress for Success truly pay attention to the needs of the client and allow them to walk out with their head high. This charity goes beyond kindness it truly offers the guidance of Interviewing preparation as well as dressing professional for the actual interview. I will absolutely use my other charity days at Dress for Success. It was an honour.

Thank you for the opportunity to volunteer. I thoroughly enjoyed it and everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. It was great to see the confidence that can be gained by feeling confident in a new outfit for an interview.

I also assisted with writing a covering letter for one of your clients, which she seemed extremely happy with so this was very rewarding to see. Thanks again

This was such a worthwhile experience and whilst I did not feel that I contributed very much, Sheila said that she would be happy to have me back again anytime. Probably the most valuable thing that I did was spend about 20 minutes on the phone with a lady of 59, anxious about trying to find meaningful work, having experienced bullying in the workplace previously. [She went away a lot happier, I believe].

Unfortunately, I have little spare time due to working full-time but I have said to Sheila that I will see if I can provide her with some recruitment literature which might be helpful for their clients. As and when I become a lady of leisure [ hopefully in the next year or 2], I would be very happy to go back on a more regular basis. Thank you for the experience.

The lady there did not know I was coming.
She still was utmost happy that I came and made such an impact.

A great international charity helping women into work, that I wasn’t aware of previously. I love my day there. Really well run, providing great personal attention to clients; an hour’s fitting to find an interview outfit from the ’boutique’ and then an hour interview support/practice. I have already booked to go again.

Prior to my arrival I didn’t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised, the atmosphere was very welcoming and easy going. The work that the do is amazing, boosting women’s self confidence and preparing them for the next step makes such a big difference.
Shelia who runs this organisation puts a lot of work into what she does and it’s evident she is passionate about her work.
I would like to think that I made a small difference to the Clients whom I met as it was a very enjoyable experience for me.
