Who will I help?

Getting a job can be a difficult and demoralising task – but made much harder for a young person with an absence of supportive family.

Drive Forward Foundation work with young care leavers ages 16-26 to give them the skills and confidence they need to find meaningful employment, broaden their horizons and change their lives.

Requiring genuine commitment from each young person, Drive Foundation provides one-to-one career support, mentoring and meaningful job placements.

How will I help?

Volunteer at the lunchtime Careers Club to use your professional skills to help young ambitious people lacking the support networks they need to help find meaningful employment. Around 8 young people attend the session each week and the charity hosts a free communal lunch before getting down to the job searches.

You're likely to find yourself working 1:1 with a young person:

• Offering interview tips and CV writing skills
• Providing support with job applications
• Delivering mock interviews

An opportunity to help share your knowledge with committed youngsters focused on developing a career.

I spent an afternoon volunteering with young care leavers at their weekly Job Club, run by Drive Forward in St Paul’s. Drive Forward is a great charity, that provides young people with help and support when going through the often complicated transition from care leavers to independent adults.

The young people using the Job Club were great fun to spend time with and I enjoyed hearing their views and opinions. I was able to use the experience I’ve gained in my working life to talk to them about what they wanted to do in the future and encourage them to broaden their horizons when thinking about what career options might be available to them.

Drive Forward is a great charity, proving help and support at what is often a crucial turning point in young people’s lives. I’d highly recommend volunteering with them and would encourage people to use their professional skills to give young people the best start to their future.

This honestly was one of the best days I had in my life in terms of satisfaction helping young adults with the opportunity to raise awareness around work and employment culture, I exaggerate not. Please if you are contemplating on using up a volunteering day, please do so here @Drive Forward based in St. Pauls! I was involved working alongside Deliotte Corporate Responsibility Team – structuring a Dragons Den theme around organising a local event which will benefit the local community. The level of genuine engagement from the young adults was amazing, and at the end, received certification and prizes from the winning team. I thank Lucy for this opportunity, and also note there are opportunities to aid the young adults in C.Vs and Covering Letters, unfortunately due to the limited numbers whom turned up on that particular day I didn’t get the chance, but my expectations where set in advance by Lucy ?. I hope to be back here in the distance future.

It was a really nice relaxed setting, where I was able to assist a few of the young care leavers in tasks such as updating CV and applying for jobs. A very enjoyable experience.

We didn’t get an opportunity to learn much about Drive Forward whilst we were there but it’s clear that it’s a fantastic charity. We enjoyed the informal setting and could see the impact of our assistance. It’s a light touch session that was enjoyable to be a part of.

It was a great day at Drive Forward. I was able to help teens refine their CVs and complete application forms for jobs or further education, and really felt the impact I had on the youngsters.
