Rummager’s Paradise

Linz Darlington | 8 July 14

I had a wonderful time volunteering at Cardinal Hume Centre Charity Shop. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and acquire retail experiences as well as a rewarding experience to raise money for the pioneering charity work that Cardinal Hume Centre has been doing.

The Cardinal Hume Centre based in Westminster enables people to gain the skills they need to overcome the poverty and homelessness. They help homeless young people, families in need and local people to realise their full potential through focusing on four areas of need: income, housing, education and legal status.

My morning was spent with Stephanie, a volunteer from southern Spain, to replenish stock on the shop floor, design window display and serve customers at the till. In the afternoon, I helped Jay with stock preparation including sorting, steaming and pricing.

You will particularly enjoy this experience if you are a ‘rummager’ with ability for finding hidden treasures and a keen eye for a bargain.

Linz Darlington was inspired to start Benefacto when he worked as a management consultant for Accenture. With three paid days off a year to spend volunteering, he had a tough time choosing a local charity where his skills could make a real impact. These days he spends his life matching talented professionals with amazing charities. Contact Linz via
