Who will I help?

How well do you know your neighbours?

The Battersea Canteen is one of the community canteens run by Be Enriched, a wonderful charity that aims to create spaces where everyone is welcome and where communities can bond. The canteen works with supermarkets, greengrocers and markets to redirect surplus food to cook up a hot meal for people who need it and for people who want to connect with others in their neighbourhood.

How will I help?

Your volunteering work at the Battersea Canteen will battle food waste and bring different people from the local community together for a free meal. You’ll help with every aspect of serving up a delicious meal to the guests.

What you can expect to be doing:

• Helping to devise the session’s menu based on the available products
• Chopping, seasoning and stirring
• Chatting with guests

Your help will make sure people in need have access to a warm meal and foster community bonding.

This opportunity was after working hours which I loved as I had already used my volunteering day at work. It was an amazing hands-on experience. The chef, Josh, showed up with several bags of food at 5pm donated by the local Coop Store and then we set about to decide what we could make to feed a dozen people. Two hours later we had a hearty root vegetable soup, a vegetarian curry and a a desert of clementine sorbet and caramalized bananas. And we feed all 21 people who showed up.
