Who will I help?

Where can you go if you live in noisy, cramped conditions and need a space to work or read, but the library is shut?

New Cross Learning is a wholly volunteer-run venue offering books, desk space and free computer use, as well as a variety of activities including toddler clubs and writing and knitting workshops.

Much loved and well used by the diverse local community, the centre is also developing as a venue for events such as film nights and spoken word performances.

How will I help?

Volunteering at New Cross Learning will give you the opportunity to support regular volunteers in delivering a variety of services.

You may find yourself helping out with:

• Participating in classes and workshops, some with children
• Providing IT skills and employability support to visitors
• Thinking how best you can apply your skills

Variety is the key word when volunteering at New Cross Learning, and an opportunity for you to meet people from the local multicultural community.

New Cross Learning are a wonderful community run library – and I have since volunteered at the library at the weekends.

It was really nice to volunteer and add value at New Cross Learning Centre. A good experience all round!

I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the day – it was so rewarding chatting to and building relationships with people from all different backgrounds and ages. We were made to feel so welcome and valued. The people that attended the day were so grateful for our help too.

The day I volunteered was a special day as the library were doing ‘Community walks’. This meant we were out all day and went on a walk and boat trip with local parents and their kids. It was a good experience. The ladies organising the trip who work at the library were very organised and I did not have to do much. I did help serve the lunch in Greenwich park though! I think a day volunteering at the library would be quite different from the day I had. Nice people to work with and they do some great work with the local community. I did feel slightly uselss on the day though as everything was arranged already. Thanks.

Made to feel very welcome. A great little organisation that is helping the community in many ways. I got involved in helping closing out some final points on their annual accounts, and drafting some T&C’s for a festival event that is being planned

The team of women I worked with are very inspirational who are strong, hard working and friendly. I admire their devotion to the community, general public and the learning centre. I will definitely volunteer here again as not only were they all helpful and friendly but they are making a real difference to the community whilst preserving history and working for the future. Well done ladies and see you soon.

We were kept busy all day with different tasks so it didn’t feel like any time was wasted, or we were getting in the way. The volunteering used our skillsets well. We also appreciated having the opportunity to work in our local community, rather than Central London.
