Who will I help?
Nearly 40 per cent of UK’s older community see television as their main form of company. Half of over-75s live alone and one-in-ten pensioners say they are always lonely. A generation that gave so much shouldn’t be forgotten.
While London does have services that support older people and keep them connected, many have been squeezed by recession and lost their funding and need all the help they can get.
How will I help?
Your team of new and friendly faces will inject some much-needed fresh energy at one of these centres, serving lunch and chatting to the clients, supporting an arts and crafts session or helping to run a tea-dance. There's always an excuse for a knees-up, whether it's Christmas, harvest, Easter, or just because it's Tuesday!
The most important thing is to help tackle loneliness and to take a moment to sit with your older guests. Simply sharing some stories over a cuppa can make all the difference!
